Coal Product Bins
Electrical Upgrade

Touchstone Systems was engaged to deliver the full electrical construction and engineering package for the upgrade of the West Cliff Coal Preparation Plant (WCCPP) product bins.

Touchstone Systems was engaged to deliver the full electrical construction and engineering package for the upgrade of the West Cliff Coal Preparation Plant (WCCPP) product bins.

The scope included the complete decommissioning and replacement of the existing electrical control system. Works were delivered in a carefully staged approach, maintaining operation of two bins at all times while the remaining bin underwent structural refurbishment—ensuring continuity of plant operations throughout the project.

Key deliverables included:

  • Construction and installation of three new PLC panels and motor distribution boards
  • Implementation of a SIL2-compliant safety system
  • Electrical engineering services, including development of single line diagrams, schematic drawings, and protection and coordination studies
  • Commissioning and delivery of a detailed report outlining the optimal sequencing for bin decommissioning to support structural, electrical, and mechanical works

Delivered alongside major structural remediation, the project required close collaboration with structural and mechanical teams. Despite a constrained schedule, Touchstone Systems scaled labour resources to ensure the upgraded control system was commissioned on time and met all operational requirements.

Kiln Solid Waste Fuels Multiflex Feeder Upgrade

Touchstone Systems was engaged to deliver the full electrical construction and engineering package for the kiln solid waste fuels feeder upgrade at Berrima Cement Works.

Touchstone Systems was engaged to deliver the full electrical construction and engineering package for the kiln solid waste fuels feeder upgrade at Berrima Cement Works.

The scope included electrical engineering for the installation of a new agitator drive and the upgrade of existing screw feeder drives associated with a new Multiflex Feeder. All works, including decommissioning and removal of the existing equipment and installation and commissioning of the new system, were completed during the site’s annual January shutdown.

Key deliverables included:

  • Electrical engineering design for three new VSDs, including single line diagrams, schematic drawings, and terminal connection diagrams
  • Construction and installation of new MCC cells to support the upgraded drives
  • Installation and commissioning of the Multiflex Feeder, including load cells, pressure and temperature transmitters, and controlled slide gates

Delivered within a tightly constrained shutdown window, the project required careful planning and coordination. Touchstone Systems ensured all works were completed safely, on time, and within budget, meeting all operational requirements.

Touchstone Systems was engaged to deliver the electrical installation works for a new Liquid Resistance Starter (LRS) for the Coal Mill 6.6kV motor.

Touchstone Systems was engaged to deliver the electrical installation works for a new Liquid Resistance Starter (LRS) for the Coldmill 6.6kV motor.

The scope included the decommissioning and removal of the existing LRS unit and associated control cabinets, followed by installation of the new LRS system. All works were completed during the site’s annual shutdown to support timely plant restart.

Key deliverables included:

  • Decommissioning and removal of the existing LRS unit and associated electrical control equipment
  • Installation and positioning of the new LRS unit within the Level 1 Coldmill switch room, including crane lift and mechanical handling
  • Coordination and support for commissioning to ensure successful integration and return to service

Due to site access constraints, the installation required careful planning and execution, including the use of a crane and controlled manual positioning of the unit. Touchstone Systems worked closely with site engineers to ensure the LRS was commissioned and operational in line with the shutdown schedule.
