Touchstone Systems

Coal Mill Liquid Resistance Starter Upgrade

Customer: Boral Cement Works, Berrima NSW

Project type: Electrical Construction

Project duration: 3 weeks

Touchstone Systems was engaged to deliver the electrical installation works for a new Liquid Resistance Starter (LRS) for the Coal Mill 6.6kV motor.

The scope included the decommissioning and removal of the existing LRS unit and associated control cabinets, followed by installation of the new LRS system. All works were completed during the site’s annual shutdown to support timely plant restart.

Key deliverables included:

  • Decommissioning and removal of the existing LRS unit and associated electrical control equipment
  • Installation and positioning of the new LRS unit within the Level 1 Coal Mill switch room, including crane lift and mechanical handling
  • Coordination and support for commissioning to ensure successful integration and return to service

Due to site access constraints, the installation required careful planning and execution, including the use of a crane and controlled manual positioning of the unit. Touchstone Systems worked closely with site engineers to ensure the LRS was commissioned and operational in line with the shutdown schedule.
